Beautiful writing and so useful. I’ve downloaded the checklist and am going to give some thought to my writing space when I have some time off over Easter. ☺️

Thank you Victoria, I do think it is useful to keep coming back to and changing up - I have so enjoyed having a dedicated space I just keep thinking of ways to tweak it and make it even more reflective of me and my projects. You will have to let me know how you get on over Easter!

I'm so fortunate in that my dining room table and chairs are the perfect height, relative to me, that I can write there without killing my back.

Such a real problem! Even on my comfy chair with a cushion, I get back ache after writing for an afternoon!

Lovely Emily x you have made me go and look at my creative nook my husband made for me on the upstairs landing and appreciate it more! It has shelves and a bookcase as well as my favourite knick knacks, my favourite thing though is the window overlooking a green where I can sit and watch dog walkers while I write x

Oh Jo - that sounds wonderful, I love picturing everyone’s creative spaces - they really are so precious and so important to the creation process. I think a nearby window is a must!

This is so timely for me too. I don’t earn a living through creativity but I so enjoy my study/creative space at home. Thank you Emily. Xx

Thank you Maria! I am glad it has come at the right time, I think our creative spaces are so integral to our output and I also love spending time and thought on creating a space reflective of our creative loves and passions.

This is so timely Emily as I am currently decluttering a small space by a window which I want to use for writing and reading. I have an old laptop so I can separate it completely from my day work. I find I am easily overwhelmed if I am surrounded by stuff, I am always so intrigued how a space can be found in smaller areas. Thank you for this lovely Sunday post - I love the checklist and will be using it as I work on my area 🌻

Oh I am so glad this has found you at the right time, I hope it helps you create something lovely. I don't think it has to be a big space, before my writing desk I worked from the sofa with one shelf designated to my journals and workbooks and a plastic container, I made that work for years! My desk is still pretty small (it is my old dressing table). I hope you enjoy the process of making your environment work for you!!! I do hope you will let me know how you get on!

Loved reading this Emily, I’ve got a similar piece in my drafts about our writing spaces. I think having a space that nurtures our creativity is vital, and ambience too. I’ve been working on mine for a while now and with the exception of giving the walls a fresh coat of paint I’m happy with how it’s turned out. Candles and house plants are included of course 😊. Have a lovely Sunday!

Oh I would love to read your take on this! I have so enjoyed having my own creative space and I am sure it has improved what I am creating and my enjoyment of the process! I am sure your space is lovely - candles, house plants and all! I'll look forward to reading your thoughts whenever you publish!

It really makes a difference doesn’t it. Your writing has always been lovely, but I know what you mean. Having that designated space for creating helps focus and having everything to hand really helps too 😊

I have never thought about the actual environment where I create. My study is where all my supplies are kept and that is limited to the size of the room which is very small but it has meant that I am someone who likes to make sure that everything is put away so that there is space. I also like to create in different places so I’ve got a bag with a variety of supplies in there which I have found to be really useful. Of course quite often what I want is not where I am!

Thank you for giving me things to think about to make this creative space even better.

I don't think I did, until I outgrew and become frustrated trying to work on the sofa! Stupidly, it had never even occurred to me to change my dressing table into a writing desk - but as soon as I did, it has improved my work but also my enjoyment! It is still a small space but just making it practical, and reflective of me has been so lovely. I love that you have a whole room - even small , it is so nice to have a space to call your own! I am glad this may have given you some ideas to make it even more you!
